Welcome to Homelands Golf Members Pages

In this section you will find information on competitions, events, handicaps and other aspects of the members section of the club. A committee is voted in by club members to represent their interests – if you have an issue you’d like to raise with the committee then please contact one of the committee members, details of whom can be found on this website or the club notice board.

We hold regular competitions, including monthly medal and stableford qualifiers which lead to annual finals, summer and winter matchplay knockouts and fun competitions. Most competitions also have a longest drive, nearest the pin and natural two contest too.

See the Calendar for dates and the club notice board for sign up sheets.

How to Obtain a Handicap

You will need to play 3 x 18 hole rounds, over 3 separate days, with a member with a current handicap who marks and countersigns your card. Put these cards in the box in the clubhouse (ask the staff if you can’t find this) and the handicap secretary will then calculate your handicap and put this in the handicap book in the clubhouse.

You can, if you wish, play in competitions without a handicap (although you can’t win) and then submit these cards to gain your handicap.

Types of Competition

Monthly Stableford

Mens, Womens and Junior Stablefords are held each month to qualify for the annual final. There is also a midweek Stableford. Stablefords are played off full handicap. Players score points on each hole dependent on their handicap adjusted score. Thus, a net bogey means the player scores 1 point, a net par they score 2 points and a net birdy 3 points etc. If you are new to stablefords don’t worry as you will get help with marking the card as you go round.

Monthly Medal

Mens, Womens and Junior Medals are held each month to qualify for the annual final. Men play a Gold (for those with handicap 14 or lower) and Silver Medal (handicap over 14).

There is also a midweek Medal. This is a standard strokeplay competition with the full handicap removed for the gross score to give the net score. The lowest score wins.

Winter and Summer Knockouts

Various matchplay knockouts are held throughout the year. In the summer there are singles, pairs and mixed pair competitions. In the winter there is a pairs competition.

See the club notice boards for details of how to sign up and formats which do vary depending on the competition. If you are interested in the pairs and don’t have a partner then ask a committee member or member of staff and we’ll do our best to help you find someone.

Annual competitions and fun days

There are a number of individual and team competitions throughout the year including the Scratch Championship (played without handicaps), various Texas Scrambles (Midsummer Madness and the Anniversary Cup), Flag Day (where your handicap is added onto the par for the course and you see how far you can get around the course before your shots run out), the Easter Pairs, Boxing Day Trophy (Gilligan), Captains Cup, Jim Stubbs Trophy (for charity). We also play qualifiers for a couple of Kent/National Competitions – the Cecil Leitch 5 Club and the Hall of Fame. Also popular is the Nutters and Putters (where the putter must not be a golfer) and the pre Christmas Turkey Trot (where all competitors bring a wrapped gift as prizes).Click For More Info
